Wheel balancersWheel balancers, also called balancing machines, are needed to locate and compensate so-called imbalances on a tire. Imbalances occur with rotating bodies, if the mass distribution on the rotation body is not balanced.
There are two types of imbalance: static and dynamic imbalances. Static imbalances are when the unbalance is also in the static state, i.e. can be detected without rotating. This is the case, for example, when one side of the wheel is heavier than the other side. Here you can find out when swinging out that the heavy side is always at the bottom of the process.
A dynamic imbalance, on the other hand, occurs when the axis of rotation of a body does not coincide with its stable major axis. This is the case, for example, if on both sides of the wheel, i.e. on the opposite sides, a different mass distribution is present. This dynamic imbalance can only be determined when the wheel is rotated.
Imbalances on the car's tire can occur at any given time. Whenever tires of a motor vehicle are remounted, they should be pre-balanced. This is done with the help of a wheel balancer.
A wheel balancer detects both static and dynamic imbalances on a tire.
Here, the centrifugal forces of the tire are detected by the balancing machine during rotation and converted into unbalance values. The wheel balancer requires three values ??for this, which must be entered at the beginning of the procedure:
- The rim width
- The rim diameter
- Distance between inner rim flange and balancing machine
