Welding protection: Important especially for the eyes!

Welding produces intense UV light. In addition, particles such as sparks or spatters may be produced, which can damage eyes and skin. Therefore, it is absolutely important during welding to provide adequate protection, especially for the eyes, but also the entire body, so that nothing can backfire.

The type of welding protection depends, on the one hand, on the frequency with which a person performs welding work, and, on the other hand, on the type of welding and the associated risks. If welding spatters occur, for example, greater protection must be taken than if this is not the case. Sweat spatters are inter alia caused by heat and pressure from the metal to be welded separating small particles from the surface, which then fly around as molten metal.
In such a case, the welding protection must cover the entire body. In any case, a welding helmet must be used here. With occasional spatter-free welding, the protection may be lower.

UV radiation can damage the eye

Mechanical effects on the eye can damage this as well as invisible UV radiation.
In particular, the shortwave UVB radiation is damaging to the eye. Welding without proper welding protection can lead to irreparable damage to the eye. For example, UVB radiation destroys the tear layer of the eye, which is responsible for the refraction of light on the eye. In addition, it damages the cells of the upper layer of the cornea. This damage usually regenerates again, but irreversible corneal degeneration may occur with frequent exposure. In addition, a cataract can cause or its emergence favored. Therefore, it is absolutely important to wear appropriate safety goggles or, ideally, a welder's helmet with UV filtering when welding.

Welding helmets not only protect the eyes, but, unlike goggles, also protect the entire head against the particles flying around during welding.

Welding helmets from RP-TOOLS - the right choice for car repair shops, industry or amateur welders

Welding helmets are fireproof. Our automatic welding helmets from our own production are also solar powered and have an automatic darkening function. They are suitable for all common welding jobs such as electrode, MIG-MAG, oxy-fuel, and TIG welding.

For the sake of your health when welding, always pay attention to the prescribed ventilation, as well as to all other necessary safety measures.
